1930s America: Macon Dead Jr, the son of a wealthy black property owner, has been brought up to revere the white world. Macon learns about the tyranny of white society from his friend Guitar, though he is more concerned with escaping the familial tyranny of his own father. So while Guitar joins a terrorist group of poor blacks, Macon goes home to the South, lured by tales of buried family treasure. But his odyssey back home and a deadly confrontation with Guitar leads to the discovery of something infinitely more valuable than gold: his past and the origins of his true self.

Barack says: ‘Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon is a book I think of when I imagine people going through hardship. That it’s not just pain, but there’s joy and glory and mystery.’
Barack Obama served an 8-year term as POTUS from 2009-2017, having previously represented Illinois in the US Senate. He is the first African-American to hold this position. A lawyer and academic by profession, Barack is supporting The Obama Presidential Center, his planned presidential library hosted by the University of Chicago.
Post-presidency, Barack and his wife, Michelle, have launched the Obama Foundation, to inspire and empower people globally to ‘change their world’. The couple also support Organizing for Action, an issues-based grassroots community of activists who are ‘fighting for progressive change’ in the USA.
