GÉNESIS
Sebastião Salgado
(UK: Taschen, @TASCHEN, 2013; USA: Taschen, @TASCHEN, 2013)

This book is the result of an epic eight-year expedition to rediscover the mountains, deserts and oceans, the animals and peoples that have so far escaped the imprint of modern society the land and life of a still-pristine planet. Some 46% of the planet is still as it was in the time of genesis. We must preserve what exists. The GÉNESIS project, along with the Salgados Instituto Terra, are dedicated to showing the beauty of our planet, reversing the damage done to it, and preserving it for the future.

Over 30 trips travelled by foot, light aircraft, seagoing vessels, canoes, and even balloons, through extreme heat and cold and in sometimes dangerous conditions, Salgado created a collection of images showing us nature, animals, and indigenous peoples in breathtaking beauty. Mastering the monochrome, Salgado brings black-and-white photography to a new dimension; the tonal variations in his works, the contrasts of light and dark, recall the works of Old Masters.

Mark Richard Beaulieu, Author, Painter, Photographer | Author websites: Eleanor of Aquitaine and Artists Cookbook

Mark is an accomplished author, collected painter, award-winning photographer and innovative software technologist. Trained as a studio artist, he holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California at Davis and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. In 2012, Mark began writing a six-volume historical fiction series based on his twelve years of detailed research on the medieval life of Eleanor of Aquitaine. The series builds on revised views of historians covering her dramatic reign in France, England, her part in the Second Crusade, and the 12th-century shift to romantic love via her courts. The books feature his cover illustrations and detailed reconstructions of ancient maps. In June 2015, Mark presented his research to the Historical Novel Society in Denver, Colorado. The final book will be published in 2019. The series – called ‘The Eleanor Code‘ (Amazon UK | USA) – has been considered as a miniseries and a motion picture. Mark also co-authored Artists Cookbook, a collection of art-oriented recipes that focus on the senses, particularly the nose, tongue, and mouth.
